Week 3

Work Stations

We added a new work station this week: file folders.  Most of them involve matching letters, either capital to capital or lowercase to capital.  The kids really enjoyed them!

5th Grade Buddies

On our early out PLC days we will get to meet with our 5th grade buddies.  This week was our first time so we had the kids pair up and then the 5th grader read a story to the kindergartner.  Here are our buddies!

Book Order

On Thursday I sent home a book order with your child.  Take a look at it and if you want to order a or some books you can do it online (the info is on the info letter) or you can return the order form with money to me!  I've already had one parent order online!  It will be due Thursday, September 6th.

Curriculum Night

Don't forget that curriculum night is Tuesday, September 4th ad 6pm!!!  We will start by meeting whole group in the media center and then will go into our classroom after a few agenda items.  Please try to make it!  We will have lots of information for you about your child's kindergarten year and will be handing out and explaining their homework bags for the year!  And also, if you are able to find care for your children, it would make the night be much quieter and move more smoothly!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Week #2

Work Stations

We started learning some work station jobs last week.  One station is playdoh.  We have letter cookie cutters and the kids are supposed to cut out letters.  Some students are even able to cut out the letters in their names!

Another work station is rainbow writing.  Each student has a paper with their names on it.  They have to trace their name four times with 3 different colors!

Puzzles is the third work station we've been doing.  We have many different board puzzles that the kids are working on putting together...one at a time!

We also have the book station.  The kids can get a stuffed animal to read to on the rug or in a chair.  We talked about how there are three ways to read a book: read the pictures, read the words, tell the story.

One other work station is learning how to play a game!  Right now we are working on playing Candyland.  They are working on their colors, remembering their piece, remembering their friends' names, and counting spaces!

Writer's Workshop

In writer's workshop right now we are working on drawing picture stories of something that really happened to us.  We are also working on handwriting.  Learning the correct strokes of the letters and having lots of practice doing it!
