Week 16

5th Grade Buddies
We had 5th Grade Buddies last week.  The kids finished up their Thanksgiving packets and played a dice rolling game to color a turkey!

Literacy
Last week's alphafriend was Callie Cat.  We came up with quite a list of words that start with the letter Cc on Friday!  It even included the words conventions and coffee!

Our sight words were:

Our first poem last week was called "Apple".  It went to the tune of Bingo!

Our other poem was our sight word poem called, "I Can Hop".

Math
We started unit 3 last week.  This unit really focuses on number partners.  When we say number partners, we mean what numbers can be used to create, or compose, other numbers.  We are working on number partners 2-6.  Here are some examples below of those number partners.
4=1+3

2=1+2

 2=1+1

Book Order
I sent home a book order on Thursday.  If you would like the books your order to be a surprise or gift for Christmas, just let me know and I'll figure out how to get them to you!

Book-It
I sent home Book-it certificates on Friday and December's sheet went home on Thursday.  We had a lot of students participate in November!!

Week 13

Literacy
This week we worked on the letter Hh.  Our alphafriend is Hattie Horse.  Have your child tell you some words that begin with the letter Hh!  I don't have any pictures of it, but, we also started working on the -at family.  This helps the kids with rhyming and begins their reading skills!

We also had two new word wall words this week:

Math
We worked on writing the letter 10 this week.  We also were drawing 10 items.  On the back of one of the worksheets the kids had to draw 10 fish.  They did a wonderful job!

We also were telling and solving math stories.  This lesson was so fun for me!  The kids came up with great stories and were able to solve them and explain how they solved them.  They are such great little mathematicians! :-)  I have a couple great videos, but am still trying to get them to load!  Hopefully I can get them up and running!

Stone Soup
Another note about stone soup went home on Thursday.  We are asking for fresh veggies now!  Carrots, potatoes, celery, and onions.
We are also still looking for parent volunteers to help with the preparation and consumption of the stone soup.  Please return the volunteer form or send me an email if you'd like to come in and help!  Thanks!

We took a picture of all the Arnold kindergartners.  They will be the graduating class of 2025!

Happy Halloween!
We read a pumpkin story on Halloween and then did a little craft to make pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns!  The kids did a great job and they turned out adorable!

Week 10

Sorry about last week!  With Miss Boltz doing more teaching, I'm out of the room a lot more and have less time to take pictures!

Last week our sight word we worked on was:

Our first poem was called, Good Helper.
I can feed my pet.
I can make my bed,
and put away my books,
after they have been read.
I can do my jobs,
that I have to do.
I can be a good helper,
just like you!

Our second poem was, "Pumpkin, Pumpkin"
Pumpkin, pumpkin, big and round.
Pumpkin, pumpkin, on the ground.
With my finger I will trace,
A smile upon, your orange face.
Pumpkin, pumpkin, big and round,
Pumpkin, pumpkin, on the ground.

And our alphafriend this week was Benny Bear.  Talk with your child about what words start with the /b/ sound!

Homework
I hope you are all finishing up your homework bag activities!  Just a reminder those apple sheets will be due this Friday, October 26!
