Notes From November

Math Stories
We have started telling "what if" math story problems.  In unit 3 we start showing the students different ways to solve a story problem.  The first one we talked about was making a math drawing and then writing an equation to go with it.  We did both an addition and subtraction problem!

Stone Soup!
The kids had a blast making and eating the stone soup!
First we colored turkey placemats for us to eat the soup on.

Then we learned about churning butter from Mrs. Goracke.  Mrs. Goracke was one of the teachers who started the tradition of making stone soup at Arnold School!

Last, we got to chop the veggies to put in the soup!

After it was all made, we dined with our 5th grade buddies!

October Fun

Just Say No!
The kids wore their red for red ribbon week as we honored a fallen officer in his efforts to stop drug trafficking.  All the kids signed a poster promising to never do drugs!

Award Winners
Congrats to our two character trophy winner so far:
Cloe

Alisa

And also to our kids who had perfect attendance in first quarter!
Adam, Barrett, Jadyn, Julian, Wyatt (and Aubrey and Hayden)

Building Numbers With Money
We have been building numbers 1-10 using money and nickel strips.  After we build the numbers we have discussed the patterns we see.  The kids noticed that the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 repeat in the numbers six through 10!  We have also discussed that any number +1 is the number just after.  Also, any number -1 is the number just before!

5th Grade Buddies
In October for 5th grade buddies the kids worked together to create an acorn that was covered in sight words!
