Welcome!
We got a new student this week, Gregory. The kids have been so great helping him out and being nice to him!
Math
We started unit 2 in math which really focuses on 5 groups. This means seeing that the numbers 6-10 all have a five group so we can quickly see what numbers they are! We will also be telling math stories and begin learning how to solve them.
We also got some new math friends,
Elsie
Noah
Literacy
Last week we worked on the letter Rr with our letter friend, Reggie Rooster. We talked about how Rr says /r/ (not ru) and what words begin with that sound. Talk with your child about some words that begin with the /r/ sound!
We had two sight words last week:
Have your child use these words in a sentence and practice spelling them orally, or even writing them down!
One of our poems last week was:
I like candy.
I like cake.
I like the cookies,
that I bake.
I like pizza.
I like popcorn, too.
I like spaghetti.
Do you like it, too?
And our other poem was:
Three Black Cats
(sung to the tune of Three Blind Mice)
Three black cats, three black cats.
With big green eyes, with big green eyes.
They meow and cry all through the night.
They jump from the fence and then run in fright.
They hiss at the kittens, oh my, what a sight,
Those three black cats.
Field Trip!!
And now, what you've been waiting for...pictures from the Pumpkin Patch! I don't know what your child told you, but for me, this was the best field trip I've ever been on! The pumpkin patch was just the right size for our kids and the owners did a great job of teaching us about pumpkins and animals. The pumpkins were easy for the kids to pick and they all got to feed an animal!
We ate our sack lunches in the room before we left.
And then loaded up on the bus to go!
The first thing we did was take our hayrack ride around the patch to pick our pumpkins.
We piled all our pumpkins together and took a quick picture before the kids ran off the play on all the fun activities.
There was a horse tank full of corn the kids could slide into.
And slides with hay to climb up to them.
And sand to play and dig in along with a little playset.
And there were bikes to ride on.
This is one of the owners teaching the kids about the different kinds of pumpkins. Ask your child what kind of pumpkin they brought home!
And here he is teaching the kids about what corn is used for.
Daphne the cow and her baby.
Here is Gina teaching us about the animals and how chickens can lay brown eggs or white eggs.
And then the kids got to feed one of the animals:
the llama, the donkey, or the pony.
Thank you so much for donating money so we could go on this adventure!!
