Literacy

Each week we have a new poem. It usually corresponds with the word wall words we are working on. This week we have been working on the words:
The poem we have been working on is called: What Goes Together? as pictured here by Caiti.
The poem goes like this:
An apple for a teacher.
a bone for a dog,
a nut for a squirrel,
a fly for a frog,
a math for a cat,
a flower for a bee,
a worm for a bird,
a friend for me!

We read the poem each day and then have some of the students read it to the class by themselves. Then on Fridays we write the missing word in (for this week) and color the pictures and put it in our poem folders. To finish off the week, we read through all the poems in our poem folders together on the rug!

40 Stars!

Last week we reached 40 stars as a class. The class can earn stars by doing a good job during workstations, cleaning up, walking quietly in the hallway, or anything else that I think is fantastic! Our reward for reaching 40 stars was the eat in the room! Of course, though, the day we chose to do it was tomato soup day! But we made it all the way to the room with only one spill! Not too bad for a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds!
