Week 18

I LOVE YOUR KIDS!
In light of what has happened last week, I just wanted to take an opportunity to let you know how much I care about your kids!  I truly enjoy spending time with them each and every day, no matter how we all sometime struggle!  I want to make sure your child feels safe at school and I want you to know that I would do ANYTHING to protect your children.

Literacy
I didn't get a chance to take a picture of last weeks words and letter with the kids...but since I didn't post last week, here are pictures of them without the kids!

The kids did an awesome job of making a list of Gg words on Friday!  Some of them included:
good
great
green
goat
gate

Math
Last week we were working on teen numbers in math.  We really try to get the kids to understand that a teen number is NOT a 1 and another number.  We want them to see the "1" as a "10" so we have them get out the teen number in tiles, for example 14.  Then we have them trade the 10 for two five strips.  Here is Peter with his 14 tiles showing them as 10 and 4.

Kandi made hers look a little different.

And then we got out our number tiles and made sure our ten tiles were on the left to show the tens place.  Inara, Libby, and Caleb are showing the number 19.

And here are a couple videos...if they load correctly! :-)

Gingerbread Week
This week we will be reading a lot of gingerbread stories and comparing them.  We will also be doing some writing prompts about gingerbread men and doing some fun activities!  One of those activities is decorating gingerbread houses with our 5th grade buddies!  Another is that we will be decorating our own gingerbread men!  We are still in need of some supplies to do both of these fun things.  If are able to donate any of the following, we would greatly appreciate it:
a can of white frosting
graham crackers
sprinkles
any other decorating items

Thanks for your support!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Week 16

5th Grade Buddies
We had 5th Grade Buddies last week.  The kids finished up their Thanksgiving packets and played a dice rolling game to color a turkey!

Literacy
Last week's alphafriend was Callie Cat.  We came up with quite a list of words that start with the letter Cc on Friday!  It even included the words conventions and coffee!

Our sight words were:

Our first poem last week was called "Apple".  It went to the tune of Bingo!

Our other poem was our sight word poem called, "I Can Hop".

Math
We started unit 3 last week.  This unit really focuses on number partners.  When we say number partners, we mean what numbers can be used to create, or compose, other numbers.  We are working on number partners 2-6.  Here are some examples below of those number partners.
4=1+3

2=1+2

 2=1+1

Book Order
I sent home a book order on Thursday.  If you would like the books your order to be a surprise or gift for Christmas, just let me know and I'll figure out how to get them to you!

Book-It
I sent home Book-it certificates on Friday and December's sheet went home on Thursday.  We had a lot of students participate in November!!
